Ok so it’s suffices to say that things have been pretty busy around here this year and I have completely failed at keeping up on the blog train. But that is where I give myself some grace and remember that we had a wedding, I moved twice, we bought our first home and then fixed it all up ourselves, and we re-located my office to work from home too. I’m tired just thinking about it all! It’s finally starting to feel like home around here since we moved in this past May, and needless to say I’ve been super obsessed with every design site out there! I’m sure you probably know about these but just in case you don’t here are my current faves:

Someday I’ll share some pictures of our new place (whenever I can clean it first!) but I have a lot of shoots and the like to share first, so I thought to get started I would post a favorite from some of my work this summer that is pretty much all over the map from San Diego to St. Louis…. these just make me happy:

I have been looking forward to getting my own engagement pictures done for sooooooo longggggg now, that I almost psyched myself out when it came time for them, can you believe it? Trying to figure out what to wear, where to go, and what we wanted to portray in them almost threw me for a loop. A loop of CRAZY. But thankfully I’m engaged to the most amazing guy ever, and he knows how to love me back on track. And the best part? I’m part of a team now. So, Zak started brainstorming and shared some ideas he had been excited about… music is very much part of who he is and photography is very much a part of me… so we thought it would be fun to use elements of each to incorporate into our shoot. Also, its no secret how much Zak likes Johnny Cash. We were going through his CD collection and came across the “Carryin’ On With Johnny Cash and June Carter” album and thought it would be perfect for us to recreate their CD cover. Sweet!

Oh and graffiti. We must have graffiti in there somewhere.

So who does a photographer choose to shoot their own wedding and engagement pictures?? If you know me personally, you know that I have a handful of photographer friends that I use to assist me and I’m really picky with who I bring along… they are the type of person I would trust to shoot my own wedding. No one else will do. I have had John Woods to work with over the last couple years and not only is he an awesome person and friend, but he has an incredible eye, is personable and easy to connect with, has a huge heart that comes through in his photography, and really gives his all in every shoot. He just really loves what he does and its easy to know that this is the type of person who was created by God to make amazing pictures. So we chose John even before we got engaged. And we feel he seriously knocked it out of the park and we couldn’t be more stoked on these!! I’m just so so so excited to share these with you…

We couldn’t be more thankful to have John to have captured these for us! What an incredible journey it’s been so far. Here’s a fun fact: Zak and I dated for 3 months and 23 days when we got engaged. Sounds short, I know, but I’ve never been so sure of anything in my life. People always told me that when you know, you know… and wow.

I know.

If there is anyone who says you can’t get married in 7 days then these two just proved you wrong. That’s right, I just said SEVEN. Days. Love it!

That was one of our favorites from the day, I’ll have more to share in a later post!

A couple weeks ago we had some rain, a thick marine layer for days, and all I was aching for was some gorgeous blue sky and golden sunlight… which is really funny because I LOVE rain and usually find it such a treat. But I knew exactly what I wanted and when it came time for this shoot we got SO SO lucky! That morning it was grey skies and the like, but by the time we headed down that evening it all burned off and we were blessed with everything I could have hoped for… all the blue sky and perfectly golden light I could want. As if that wasn’t enough of a blessing in itself, Mary and Andrew pretty much knocked it out of the park in front of my camera.

They are hilarious together by the way, always laughing and joking around… they are a joy to hang out with.

I think that last one might be my favorite. She’s in love. He let’s her shine. And that is just the most beautiful thing to see.
